The New World MMO from Amazon: First Impressions

Introductory remarks

Amazon’s first attempt at an MMORPG looks pretty incredible, but by now we all know that just because it looks good does not always mean it will be good.

In 2018, I didn’t think much of New World when I first heard about it. Briefly, I looked at what the game is going to bring to the genre and was mildly intrigued.

As we move into 2020, we have videos like gameplay demos and the play test for New World preorder customers and content creators.

The game looks absolutely stunning, north junkyard bunker code and I am the first to say it. Each zone looks like it belongs to a different world, and the Colonial Dark Souls theme is a fresh take on an MMO.

There aren’t that many people with time to play video games, so this seems like the kind of game that people without a lot of time to play can just hop in and live inside an expansive world. I was excited when I heard that New World would have a PvP focus, but I learned that the devs are focusing on a PvE open world game, and I’ll get to that in a minute.

Almost every creator says the same thing in videos and streams covering this game: the questing in New World is horrendous. For beginner levels, there are a lot of gathering, hunting, and looting missions.

However, if the quest depth does not change as you level up, it makes for a very stale experience. While MMO RPGs are supposed to be grindy, you need to strike the right balance between grinding quests and the rewards you gain from grinding. destiny 2 where to buy mod components I can’t tell you how many quests and other small tasks I have abandoned because I just didn’t like the reward at the end of the tunnel.

It is not worth spending 40 minutes looting crates after crates to get 100 gold and an upgraded musket.

To keep players interested in questing in New World, it needs to adopt the traditional new system used in MMORPGS like Guild Wars 2.

Combat and the Story

While the story hasn’t really been revealed yet, and we don’t have much to go on, I want to talk about how it’s being delivered.

There should have been more fully voiced cut scenes and better NPC interactions. Possibly a mark that could have been hit by the team, but hopefully it keeps players engaged.

In terms of keeping players engaged, let’s talk about the combat, this is probably one of the biggest reasons I’m not certain this game can compete with the other MMORPGS out there.

As opposed to an actual MMO that focuses on group content to progress throughout the game, New World feels more like a single player game, dragon age inquisition mods with multiplayer being a good way to socialize with friends, but the action combat system and lack of mobility make me doubt that players will stay to reach max level.
