Installing a NETGEAR router

NETGEAR router is being opted by many these days due to its smooth and fast functioning. It is one such router that hardly faces any issues and offers incredible speed. This feature of the NETGEAR has earned it many users. But due to a digital device, NETGEAR is also prone to suffer some abnormalities at times. For your NETGEAR router not working, you should check the NETGEAR router setup once before dropping the issue to the concerned support team.

Setting up the NETGEAR router

  1. Firstly connect your modem to the yellow Ethernet port located on the back of your NETGEAR router using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Connect your system with one of the Ethernet ports.
  3. Click on the Power button of the router. The LED router light should be turned on.
  4. Launch a web browser and type routerlogin.net.
  5. The screen will ask the user to log in.
  6. If, while logging in, you face any internet connection issues, contact your internet service provider.
  7. Enter your login details to the router. The default router name will be “admin,” and the password will be “password.” Both username and password are case sensitive.
  8. Click on Advanced option and then Setup Wizard.
  9. Tap on the Yes button and select Next. The router will detect your internet connection, and you will be asked to log in.
  10. Create a new admin password and confirm the same.
  11. The user needs to select and answer two security questions.
  12. The Congratulations! page is displayed on clicking Next.
  13. If you wish to print your network setting, click on the Print option.
  14. Tap Next.
  15. The Firmware Update Assistant page is displayed.
  16. If the firmware update is unavailable, select OK.
  17. Your router is now set up.
  18. If there is a firmware update, you can update it by clicking on yes.
  19. Once the firmware updates and the router reboots, you will again be prompted to log in.
  20. Type the username as admin and enter the new password.
  21. The BASIC page will display, and your NETGEAR router is complete.

If you are still experiencing the issue of the NETGEAR router not working, you can go through some troubleshooting steps.

  1. Connect your computer directly to the router with the help of the Ethernet cable and turn off the wireless function.
  2. Restart the computer and check if the internet connection is working.
  3. If there are no internet signals still, try rebooting the router or any other modem in use.
  4. You can repeat step 3 even if your system is directly connected to the modem instead of a router.
  5. You should contact your internet service provider if you are still not getting an internet connection.

If you cannot access your internet wirelessly, you must check the following steps to enable the wireless router signal.

Enabling using WiFi button

  1. For two seconds, press the WiFi On/Off button on the router.
  2. In doing so, the WiFi On/Off LED’s active antennas light, the WPS LED, and the LEDs should turn off and on.

Enabling on NETGEAR router/DSL gateway

  1. Open a web browser on a system or mobile device connected to your device’s network.
  2. Type the link http://www.routerlogin.net. It will display a login window.
  • Enter your login details to the router. The default router name will be “admin,” and the password will be “password.” Both username and password are case sensitive. It will display the BASIC home page.
  1. Go to ADVANCED, Advanced Setup, and then Wireless Settings.
  2. Un-tick the Enable Wireless Router Radio check-boxes of 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz-1, and 5 GHz-2. It will turn off the WiFi for each band.
  3. Tap on the Apply button to confirm the changes and apply them to your router.
